these are awesome, I run them at my office and several schools have full classrooms of them.

So the symbol is that of a variable resistor. It is showing that the carbon track is connected across one and three, and that the slide is connected to two. It has a diagram of the top connection posts of the slide, so you can connect to it correctly :) Best thing you can do is connect a multimeter ...

You can have a look at the DSE Nano and stuff from Adafruit, or parallel import. If you're looking from a cost perspective it's going to be cheaper to import than buy local - just keep it under the $400 gst threshold :) But that is soon changing, so keep an eye out :)
